About Alstonville physical culture club
At Alstonville Plateau Physical Culture Club (Alstonville Physie for short), we proudly teach the BJP Physical Culture curriculum. BJP Physie is the oldest running and most prestigious Physical Culture establishment in Australia. For 125 years, BJP has provided a national platform for Physie clubs to come together to engage in competitions and camaraderie.
“Physie is an elegant way of developing not only fitness but also grace, strength and focus in our girls and women. At BJP, what we are most proud of is how Physie weaves its way throughout the lives of Australian families. Generations of women have discovered lifelong friendships, a true sense of community and a sport for life in Physie.” – Jackie Rawlings, BJP Physical Culture
Empowering Girls for Life
There is an aura of confidence around Physie girls of all ages. Taught to stand tall, with strength and pride, they are team players committed to achieving their goals.
Unlike some ballet and dance studios, Alstonville Plateau Physical Culture Club focuses on developing the self-esteem of its students. By teaching them to have a positive relationship with their bodies, we help students blossom with confidence and self-assurance.
BJP Physie is passionate about nurturing students’ total wellbeing, in both mind and body. Physie is an accepting and encouraging team sport, where every member is supported and motivated to be the best they can be.
Meet the Teachers at Alstonville physie!
I’m the head associate and established the club in 2007. I grew up as a ‘physie girl’ in the Macksville area always assisting with the younger girls.
After a move to Ballina to study & become a Chartered Accountant, I found Physie was a great way to stay fit and to meet new friends.
I now have three children (you’ll probably see them around often), Lilla, Nash, and Maeve. My wonderful supportive partner, Wade, who allows me to continue my love of teaching physie. Please bare with me a times, life can get pretty hectic with being a working Mum, Partner and a physie teacher to all your beautiful girls.
My biggest joy is seeing the smile on the girls faces each and every week. Seeing girls work hard and achieve their goals is a bonus.
Pennie has been apart of our club since it opened in 2007.
She is currently helping Miss Jenna teach the juniors aswell as doing her own Physie.
Miss Pennie has achieved great things since joining our club with her big sister Sophie, such as placing 1st at Zone in the 11 years back in 2012, to making the Opera House National Finals in 2017 in the 1st Year Seniors.
Miss Pennie enjoys teaching and is a great role model for the younger girls.
Gaye has been a Physie girl for many years now.
She joined Alstonville Plateau Physie in 2017 and has taken on the role of teaching our ladies class.
Gaye has many years of experience with all types of Physie, not just BJP!
We love having her as a part of the Alstonville team as she inspires our other ladies, and seniors, with her knowledge and passion for this dance sport.
Miss Olivia has been doing physie for many years now and has achieved great success such as placing first at zone when she was 11, and making the Sydney Opera House Finals two years in a row and placing 4th in the 1st year seniors in 2016!
Olivia has just completed her HSC and is now helping teaching our preschoolers. Her dedication and determination is very much admired, and she is an inspiration for the younger Physie girls.

“Ella has been doing Physie for the last 5 years and in this time, she has grown so much. Not just in her performance but also in confidence. She has made many new Physie friends and so have I (Ella’s mother). Love the Physie family.”
Mother – Melissa
“It’s not hard to get hooked on Physie! I can tell from how many years of Physie my daughter has competed by the colour of her leotards, red, orange and white, green, pink and black and white. Each year she builds confidence, strength, determination and resilience and at the same time, is supported and encouraged by her friends and teachers.”
“I have been with Alstonville Plateau Physie Club since I was 9 (the last 5 years) and each year I have become stronger. Our teachers are encouraging and are always helping us grow. Classes are challenging but still enjoyable. Each year I always make new friends at inter clubs, zone and nationals. I have made so many friends since starting Physie. I love watching the seniors in our club and I look up to them. The Physie family are all supportive and I have become close with everyone in the club. I love being a part of the Alstonville Physie family and I love Physie.”
